Processing Scheduling Service
RIRLA Ends Processing Scheduling
As we end 10 years of working together with Rhode Island Beef & Veal and Westerly Packing to provide local livestock processing for our farmer members, we have reached the
point where we have decided to no longer schedule processing. As our member farms have grown over the years, the ability to process at a number of out-of-state facilities became an economic reality. Over
the past year, we have realized that our processing numbers no longer support Rhode Island Raised livestock as a scheduler. It is our hope that both RI Beef & Veal and Westerly Packing can
continue to provide our smaller farms the ability to process their livestock in-state.
Our final day for scheduling will be December 26, 2017. We are scheduling no animals in 2018.
We thank our members who have remained as we grew from small processing numbers, to processing large numbers of livestock, and then dropped back to small numbers once
again, even though many no longer processed through RIRLA. We have been grateful for the partnership we have had with RI Beef & Veal and Westerly Packing as we watched our member farms grow, given
the ability to receive USDA processing close to home. We consider this joint venture to have been quite a success.
RIRLA is not disbanding, we are simply revising our purpose as we move forward. We hope you will join us at our April 2018 Annual Meeting to help us begin this new stage in
