Promoting Your Farm

How do you promote your farm and products?
Is it via word of mouth? A web site? Facebook or Twitter?
If someone Googles your Farm name or Local Meat with your town name or area, does your farm come up?

Here are some places you can add your farm to which can help customers to find you:

  • Farm Fresh lists farms, farm stands, farmers markets, Pick Your Owns and many more. It is also home to Market Mobile, connecting businesses and institutions with local products.

  • Buy Local RI is a good resource to list your farm on. It's free and easy to use. If you Google "Buy Local RI" you will get an "Under Construction" page as they are currently in the process of updating their website since The RI Foundation took it over. They will send RIRLA info as soon as they have it ready so we can pass it on to farms to fill out or update their profiles. They expect the site to go live in October or November, so hopefully we can be some of the first to be on the new site.

  • Buy CT Grown is a website for CT Farms to be listed.
    www.buyctgrown.com

  • Mass Grown lists eight different Buy Local organizations across Massachusetts.

  • LocalHarvest is a free listing and provides consumers a way to find farms near them. RIRLA is pleased that a number of our member farms and other local farms are listed there! People looking to buy local can input their location or ZIP and find farms or farmers markets nearby.

  • Eatwild.com has specific criteria you must meet and sign off on to be listed (it is a grassfed/pasture based network) and is a paid listing. If you meet their criteria and want to be added to the Eatwild Directory, the cost is $50 per year, and includes one free update per year. Eatwild's Directory of Farms lists more than 1,400 pasture-based farms, including a couple of RIRLA members.

  • Harvest to Hand is a mobile app available on both iPhone and Android devices to help people find agriculture in the area they are traveling in/find themselves in. It has very little information for Rhode Island, but if you add your listing to it, we can help it grow! Harvest to Hand is sponsored by Farm Family.
